I See His Blood Upon The Rose

I See His Blood Upon The Rose
Metropolitan Arts Centre, Belfast MAC
8 Nov 2024 - 30 Mar 2025

https://themaclive.com/exhibition/i-see-his-blood-upon-the-rose

I see his blood upon the rose traces the history of the flower in art, its evolution from botanical illustrations to the opulent still-life paintings of the 17th century, their adoption as symbols of political influence, revolution, and human control over nature. Floral motifs were used for the advancement of women's suffrage, Irelands Easter Rising and in opposition to the Vietnam War. The exhibition will explore the influence of these trail blazing artists by juxtaposing their meticulously executed works alongside internationally recognised contemporary artists such as Alvaro Barrington, Tracey Emin, Michael Landy, Robert Mapplethorpe, John Currin as well as Northern Irish based artists Jennifer Trouton, Ted Pim and Paola Bernardelli whose practice draws on Ruysch and Delany's master of the genera. Full list of exhibiting artists; Alvaro Barrington, Paola Bernardelli, Bernie Boston, John Currin, Mary Delany, Micky Donnelly, Tracey Emin, Michael Landy, Linder, Robert Mapplethorpe, Darren Murray, Mario Nuzzi, Gavin O'Curry, Ted Pim, Rachel Ruysch, Penny Slinger, Jo Spence, Jennifer Trouton, Ria Verhaeghe. This is a very special exhibition - not to be missed this winter at the MAC.

Dreamcatching
Pantarhei Spiegelrei
Ria Verhaeghe's site-specific installation Dreamcatching (2024) and Pantarhei - Spiegelrei is a part of the group exhibition at the Bruges Triennial 2024 Spaces of Possibility

Cultuurcentrum Brugge present Memory as a Building along side five other artists: Pierre Goetinck, Lisa Ijeoma, Joke Raes, Jasper Rigole and Willy Vynck.

Together, they dig into 'the memory' of the Poortersloge, a roving space that has already had many interpretations. This location evolved from commercial centre to Academy, from State Archives to temporary exhibition space and also offers a sea of possibilities for the future.

The exhibition will be on view 14 April - 11 August 2024.
